If you plan to travel to Japan, I recommend you to visit the Japanese hot spring at least once
It's also good to stay in a hot spring hotel

Japan is known for its abundant natural hot springs, also known as "onsen."

These hot springs are popular destinations for both locals and tourists to relax, unwind, and enjoy the therapeutic benefits of the mineral-rich waters.

Here are some famous hot spring regions in Japan

  1. Beppu : Beppu is a city on the southern island of Kyushu and is famous for having the highest volume of hot spring water in Japan. The "Hells of Beppu" are a collection of unique hot spring areas that you can visit.

  2. Kusatsu : Located in Gunma Prefecture, Kusatsu is renowned for its abundant hot spring water and high- quality baths. Yubatake, a large wooden structure where the hot spring water cools down, is a famous landmark in the area.
  3. Arima : Arima Onsen, near Kobe, is one of the oldest hot spring resorts in Japan and has a history dating back over a millennium. It is renowned for its hot spring waters and picturesque surroundings.

  4. Gero : Gero Onsen, in Gifu Prefecture, is one of Japan's top three hot springs for its mineral- rich waters. The surrounding scenery is particularly beautiful during the autumn foliage season.

  5. Hakone : Located just outside Tokyo, Hakone is one of the most well- known hot spring areas in Japan. Besides the hot springs, it offers stunning views of Mount Fuji, Lake Ashi, and various art museums.

  6. Noboribetsu : Situated in Hokkaido, Noboribetsu is one of the most popular hot spring destinations in northern Japan. Jigokudani, or "Hell Valley," is a major attraction here, featuring a dynamic landscape with steaming sulfur vents and hot springs.

  7. Ibusuki : This hot spring resort town on Kyushu is unique because of its "sand baths." Visitors are buried in naturally heated volcanic sand, which is said to have various health benefits.

  8. Atami : Located on the Izu Peninsula, Atami is a coastal town with numerous hot spring ryokans (traditional Japanese inns) and modern hot spring facilities. It's easily accessible from Tokyo, making it a popular weekend getaway.

  9. Yufuin : Situated in Oita Prefecture, Yufuin is a charming hot spring town known for its peaceful atmosphere and beautiful rural landscapes. The town is surrounded by mountains and has many art galleries, boutiques, and cafes.

Remember that when visiting hot springs in Japan, there are certain etiquettes and customs to follow, such as bathing nude (separately by gender) and not allowing any clothing or towels into the bathing areas.
